Thoughts on the old NXT format

Watching the crowds singing Fandangos theme on Raw, I got thinking about the number of the current roster who got their break on NXT. While some have been repackaged etc, it does seem to have been a great testing ground for talent.

Bryan, Barrett, Ryback, Fandango, AJ, Kaitlyn, PTP, Clay and several more have made it to the main show, with some having major impacts.

So do you think a format like NXT had, with stars being forced to work without as much help from creative is a better option than the current NXT setup where smaller crowds etc make it easier for rookies to get experience but may not give the kick forward they need

For me, no, I don't think it was better.

Cesaro, The Shield, Big E Langston, Sandow never appeared on the old NXT for exampke.

The old NXT set up benefitted Bryan and Wade becuase it gave them a storyline to debut with. They didn't just get promoted to the main roster and then get left floating around. It was the storyline that was the key, Nexus for Wade and as it turned out The contrats between Bryan and Miz gave him a story after the nexus thing went bad for him.

Ryback, Clay and Fandango were taken away and repackaged before debuting with help from creative.

the current NXT allows a chance to work on front of a crowd, then they normally get brought to house shows and tapings for dark matches so they are still well tested.

the storyline and how they are brought to the main roster are the most important things no matter which NXT set up they have.

Well, it was worth it just for Johnny Curtis and Maxine.

For me, the format falls flat on it's face when you realize it doesn't matter who wins or loses the show, and that they'll push who they want.

DM-ICE is right. Doesn't matter the name of the show or the format, the important thing is they get experience in front of a crowd and with cameras rolling. Any show then, of any format, works provided it provides that experience.

Can't talk about NXT Redemption without getting emotional.

This is about NXT not Raw. :p

The original NXT had it's moments but it just went south on the amount of challenges that were brought in. After Season 2, the originality worn off and then we had the Diva's Season 3...........

Still though, NXT brought 1 or 2 good moments

To be clear earlier I compared the original NXT set up to the current one.

NXT redemption (season 5) that eventually went on for over a year turned into all kinds of awesome. Loved it, not sure it did much for the wrestlers though!

Even the diva series produced 4 wrestlers/valets who are still on the main roster. It was definitely an improvement on the old mail order lingerie catalogue method of recruiting new divas.

I was a bit miffed at Aloisa getting pulled from the Divas line-up, and fading into obsurity. Mind, the one that replaced her went on to be the Divas champ, so it's hard to measure which one is more irrelevant at this stage.
