Can't really recommend anything but 'The Westwood' is not in the City. It would cost a lot for guests to get to and from there to town or wherever they are staying.

Let us know what type/how many etc you are thinking of and I'm sure you will get good recommendations.

    Congrats :-)

It would cost a tenner per taxi, per way as am currently living in the city centre and worked there over the Summer! Sometimes it's only 8 euro.
    Very popular place for weddings.

Ther are lots of hotels in Galway that cater to weddings. THe Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill, The Salthill Hotel, Salthill. The Ardilaun Hotel, Just to name a few. These hotels have parking good facilites and there are B & B's in close proximity.

For 70/80 I'd consider Rowing Club. It's cosy and in city centre.

The Harbour Hotel (on the docks) is now holding weddings and would be perfect for those numbers. I have heard good things about it..

it doesn't cost a lot to go from town to the Westwood - its only a 7 minute drive. less than a tenner.

The Ardilaun is a lovely place for a wedding.

    Westwood is fine too.

Wait, are you looking for a spot to hold the wedding, or the reception/afters?

I've been to The Galway Bay hotel, not for a wedding/event, but just a weekend away and have to say it was fab, the food in the restaurant was lovely (though we only had breakfast, no dinner/lunch there).

It's about 10 mins in a taxi and we paid between €8 and €12 euros for taxis depending on the taxi you get. Any time we got hotel reception to phone a taxi for us, the taxi had a call out charge of €2 or €3 again depending on the taxi you get.

The westwood isnt too far out of the city, maybe 3/4 miles at most from the city centre. Probably about a tenner for a taxi of 4.

Was at a wedding there last year, and it was fine. Cant complain but at the same time nothing special. Were having our reception in the galway bay hotel in Salthill. Its about 2/3 miles from the city centre. The gf feel in love with the place so that was that.

I was at a wedding in the westwood last year. I thought the place was pretty drab and didn't stand out from any other wedding I had been at. The food was very slow and just fine, nothing special.

I was at a wedding in the Claregalway Hotel. Was quite pleasantly surprised -the decor was nice & food good (for mass-catering type food).

I wouldn't. Booked a suite there for our honeymoon. It was a horrendous experience. Room was cold as the heating was broken. The sitting room was filthy. The suite itself was dark and dingy with old fashioned furniture. Shower didn't work. Management were very slow to respond to calls and when they eventually did, tried to dismiss me as a Bridezilla. Big mistake!!

Bog standard suite, and bog standard food for a lot of money. There was NOTHING special about the hotel. We complained to the management and left after one night.

If you're willing to travel a little further on, then I would go to the Bunratty Castle. The service and food there was like night and day. It was MUCH cheaper and better than the Galway Bay IMO. The hotel management treated us like royalty and couldn't do enough for us. AND the suite was much nicer. Or maybe try the 'G'.

We had our wedding reception in the Ardilaun Hotel and would recommend it. Our wedding was also small approx 80 guests, we used the smaller function room and it worked very well. The outside grounds are lovely and as the weather was good on our day we had our arrival drinks outside. We found the staff very friendly and helpful through out the planning and on the day. We had also considered the Galway Bay hotel, however it would have ment 2 wedding taking place on the same day ! I hope this helps.
