I levelled out an old ditch and im worried I might get into bother about it, I didnt realise until someone said it to me that the entitlement crowd could cut my entitlements if they found out. What can I do?? It was a hopeless old ditch, it was all holes and gaps and hardly no hedging at all, Not stockproof at all. I am into tillage and I wanted to make the field easier to work for myself, I was told I need to plant new hedging the same length as I removed, which will cost a fortune..

As far as I know you are allowed to remove up to 500 metres of a ditch before you need to get permission.

You do need to replace it though under cross compliance rules. It is also illegal to remove/damage hedges between March and the end of August.

You need to plant a hedge of the same length. Simple as that no way out of it
