    Hi There,

I've suffered from bouts of anxiety/panic attacks for about 6 years. It comes and goes and usually I can deal with it. I've had to go and get prescribed medication about 5 times in the 6 years.

I've always got Xanax 0.25mg. The last time I was with the doctor in January this year he also prescribed me Inderal LA 80mg.

I got 10 Xanax tablets and they are now gone. I have some stressful times ahead in the next few months and can feel the anxiety beginning to the get the better of me so will probably look to use the Inderal. I'm a little anxious though

Just wondering if anybody else has used this type of medication for the same purpose as me (panic/ anxiety attacks).

    Thanks

    Hi,

Tried the xanax once and just felt not myself and that medication was covering a symptom more so than dealing with the cause of the panic attacks. Not to say that medication is not useful for anxiety, in some cases it really is. How did you come to be on the medication?

    Trig.

First got prescribed to me in The Mater Hospital. I didn't understand I was having a panic attack and brought myself to hospital. After an examination I was told I was ok and given a few Xanax to calm down

In 6 years I've probably taken 30 - 40 Xanax tablets. I do try deal with panic/anxiety situations myself but there are times when I need medication.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure why I was given the Inderal. I was having really bad panic attacks while in the doctor's surgery in January and I just wanted to get out of there (anyone who suffers from panic attacks will understand this). The GP had said it would help with tremors caused by anxiety but from reading online the meds seem to serve a wide range of issues.

I'm reluctant to go back to GP for more Xanax so may try using an Inderal tablet.

Used to take valium for anxiety and zimovane for sleep. Went into hospital last year and my consultant said said he was changing my meds - no more benzos. Just like that.

At the time, I was frustrated and suspicious. A year later, it was one of the best things a doctor ever did. The new meds are an atypical anti-psychotic. I take a tiny dose but it does the job. To be honest, I wouldn't bother taking a valium now the new stuff works so well. Its a different effect but better.

What I'm saying is try the new meds and see how you get on. You can always go back and talk to your doc about it. Maybe try it on a day when you don't have any plans in case it has a strong effect on you.

    Good luck with it.

Do you drink alcohol at all, or even frequently? Its often the cause of the type of symptoms you have...

Inderal is used to treat a variety of problems. I'm on it for migraines. But it is widely used for anxiety. It basically lowers blood pressure. So it helps to calm you down when you start getting worked up.
It works very quickly so its best taken (for anxiety) an hour or so before an event that you expext to cause you anxiety.

The product that the OP is on is not Inderal, it's Inderal LA.
'LA' stands for Long Acting, as in the product is formulated specifically to release its active ingredient slowly.

I am in a similar situation. I usually deal with general anxiety disorder pretty well without the use of medication. But on rare occasions of acute stress I take one .25 xanax per day for ten days and thats all I need.

My new doctor prescribed me effexor XL 75MG. He says they not only are used for depression but also GAD.

I am reluctant to go on anything long term and im also terrified of the side effects.

Has anyone been on these? Also, did start on the inderal? If so, how are you finding them?

Hi I was wondering did you ever try the inderal in the end. I'm getting married in a few weeks and suffer from anixiety at the thought of speaking in front of people get sweat, mind goes blank, heat racing
shakey voice etc. Was reading up with inderal and it seems it could help with the symtoms. Just wondering did you try it??

I would say go to the Dr and see what he thinks. If it is an option for you test it out before the wedding as beta blockers can have unpleasant side effects if they don't suit you such as headaches, exhaustion, low blood pressure.

No I never took one in the end. I still have them though. I just felt Inderal offered too many solutions to problems I didn't suffer from.

I just got married myself and have done best man. I found a couple of drinks beforehand calmed my nerves big time.

Practice your speech in front of the mirror out loud. Use flash cards with the speech written down either in bullet point or the whole speech. Practice in front of somebody then and remember everybody at your wedding is there for you and don't really care if you mess a line up here or there.

I really got worked up about it beforehand but everything went ok as will for you

    Hey Everybody,

I just thought I'd give an update on how I got on. I decided to do what
Whimsical suggested and went to see my Doctor. He said I suffered from what's called fight or flight sydrome. He said he suffered from it to and was very understanding. He put me on 10mg inderal tablets. Now when I say these changed my life would be an understatement. I've always had a debilitating fear of talking in front of people. When I take 2 of these I am still nervous but don't have any of the physical symptoms which lets me speak. Without these I couldn't have done the speech at my wedding. What I'm hoping is I can cut down on the amount until I dont need them anymore.
