Which one will provide the most:

    1. detailed
    2. realistic flight experience?

In terms of helicopters (sikorsky s-92 and augusta westland 139)

    thanks in advance.

Realistic in terms of systems - FSX
Realistic in terms of flight dynamics - XP10

    Therein lies the rub.

Try the demo of both, see how you like them.

With the exception of night lighting, FSX is far far superior in terms of graphics. It also has a far bigger eco-system of addon developers.

Until the likes of PMDG make XPlane their primary platform I'd hold off. PMDG = As real as it gets.

Latest payware offerings for XP have been closing the gap but the variety of aircraft on offer is still pretty small as the field of developers for XP has only expanded significantly in the last year or two. Also, the amount of really top class custom scenery for X-Plane is quite limited. That said, it depends on what you want to get from the sim: for some people it's all about the graphics, for some it's procedures and flight dynamics.

X-plane 10 is much better made software. It runs across multi-cores and is a true 64-bit application. Therefore it can access way more momory. FSX IS 32 bit and can address only 3.5 Gb. FSX crashes alot too.
Have you considered Lockheed Martin's Prepar3d V1.4 as a best of both worlds solution ? Is runs across multi core processors and can access tons of ram. It is much more stable than FSX. Most of the addons for FSX work in Prepar3d when installed using a virtual file system tool from flightsim estonia. FSX addons for the sikorsky s-92 and augusta westland 139 should run on Prepar3d.

Personally, I have FS 10 and XP 10 on the same box, a sony VIAO running win 7 64 bit. Although it does crash sporadically FS 10 does not crash that often. XP 10, I like flying the X 15 in it. Addons for xp10 are still a bit few and far between, but this is changing and PC PILOT magazine seems to be devoting more coverage too xp10 these days. Make sure you are using an up to date video driver for both fs10 and xp10.
