    Hi all,

I know there a few threads like this already so sorry.

Regarding an embedded ball, rule 25-2 clearly states that any ball that is embedded in it's own pitch mark in a closely mown area, through the green, may be lifted, cleaned and dropped etc.

However most people I speak to all seem to say that any ball which is embedded may be lifted, cleaned and dropped..not just in a closely mown area (i.e. in the rough)

Local rules aside, is this the case? Or is it only if a local rule specifically says it?

Must be a local rule regarding embedded ball in the rough last I knew.

I had a plugged ball in the Sumer last year in my club. It was in the rough and I had to take an unplayable lie and a penalty drop. There is no local rule for it.

Other clubs are different as far as I know.

There is only relief from closely mown areas unless a local rules stipulates otherwise (which is stupid IMO).

What adds confusion sometimes is that there is a hard card (local rules) for all PGA tour events and one of those is relief from an embedded ball through the green i.e. in rough also.
