Looking for some advise , getting a Hard-tail and totally lost with all the choice, Plus I am a total newbie and have no clue what to look out for.

I've been to a few shops and they have not helped at all, I'm more confused after going to them. The make I am looking at are Cube, Giant and Fiji. Looking to use the full 1k on a decent bike.

So ... What suggestions do you have for me. If you were buying a bike would you go for Cube, Giant or Fiji and what model would be your choice.

    tks in advance for advise.

I don't know about Figi for MTBs, I've never heard of them. I have a Cube LTD pro (26" wheels) and I like it. More or less fits your budget, I believe. One of my friends recently got the 29" version of the bike and she's very happy with it. It does lift a little easily at the front, though, which might be a problem if you do a lot of climbing.

I'm not sure what the components on the Giant MTBs are like, but I think their road bikes are usually not bad. Look for a decent fork is the main advice I've heard with a MTB, something from Rock Shox is usually standard at that kind of price range. The Cube frames are nice, and they have mounts for racks if you ever wanted to do a long tour with one, or use it for commuting. Not too heavy either. If you're going into shops, try out the Giant and the Cube, see which you like the feel of more. If neither, whichever is the best value (priority ~ frame> fork > wheels > groupset).

Are you planning to do much off road stuff ? You will plenty bike for 1k . Are you restricted to those makes or have you narrowed it done to them ?

Even though both my bikes are trek I think you get a excellent bike from Giant.
Alot of my mates are all on Giants and if i was to buy again it would be Giant, building at moment but cant afford a giant framset.
No experience of Fuji MTB .
Friend has a cube and it looks the business but I prefer my trek even though its nowhere as good looking as the cube

I bought a Cube Acid last March, it is my first mtb and i'm delighted with it. I've been all over Wicklow/Dublin and over in the Lake District with it and not had any problems at all. It cost around €880 in Cycle Superstore. I would highly recommend this bike to anyone.

Thanks for the Advise, Sorry about the typo It Fuji not Fiji !!

I was in a shop earlier and they recommend the Giant Revel 0 LTD for 849, or the Revel 1 LTD for 749. but they didn't have any in stock so could not try them out.
I do like the Cube Acid 29 but it wont leave anything left out of my 1k for accessories. The Cube LTD 26 is over my budget at 1200 but that is a nice bike.

Any advise of those three bikes (Giant Revel 0 LTD or 1 LTD or Cube ACID 29)

    tks

Have you been into the Giant store on the long mile road. Richie Byrne would be the man to talk to in there hes the main man in mtbing in Ireland. Hes also the main man in the Epic Mtb club if you want to go on their forums and ask there. I don't know anything about the bikes you mentioned, sorry.

I would buy the best bike you can afford and worry about the accessories later - they will be much cheaper online anyway! I'm sorry to say it but the world is turning 29er (and I'm speaking as a man with two 26" mountain bikes!) so I would suggest going with the bigger wheels if you can. Do not buy anything with Suntour forks and obviously hydraulic brakes are essential!

If you're in Dublin, drop into Expert Cycles in Rathfarnham - you'll get decent advice there!

Spend the full €1k on the bike and you'll get some accessories thrown in for free with most bike shops...or a good discount.

Giant and Cube are the most common, and you'll easily get a demo spin and good advise from a local bike store...
