Hi all, i am currently a mature student living at home with my parents in Galway. Next September I plan on doing a course in Westport CFE and I will have to move there. I understand that if I was to move out to live in Galway it would take 6 months to get rrent alwance but will it be different as I am moving to Westport to study? Any advice would be appreciated.

You are already a mature student though. I don't think they will let you go of to another course.

I am in Fetac level 5 at the moment and the course in westport is level 6 so you are entitled to Back to Education if you are moving up to the next level according to our guidance counsellor

You'd better move to Westport fairly fast. You'll have to be renting 6 months there before you'll even be considered eligible for RA.

I know a semipro working in Galway. Is another year of a course really essential to securing employment. Plenty of part time jobs in that city which you could build up a portfolio and get a few paid gigs. It just seems a waste to ship somebody off for a year and pay for accommodation so they can do another course in photography.

I am doing a media course at the moment which covers all types of media, photography is just one of the modules, very basic stuff. The level 6 course is there to provide people with the skills to work in the industry.
