Hi, I'm new here, first post!

I've been listening to the phoneshow for a year and I wonder if it is scripted and staged or if it's real. I think Adrian picks who comes on out of thousands and tells them what to say

    ridiculous phone show

You could have a debate on some of the most serious issues today, say for instance abuse in the church and there will always be one gob****e who rings up saying its no harm or something of the sort, purely to set the cat amongst the pigeons

cue caller after caller abusing said gob****e down the phone, whilst Kennedy sits back and lets the mentally challenged troll get a roasting before he will triumphantly cut them off in his disgust, despite the fact that he has given the idiot a platform to spout ****e for the previous half hour

    rinse and repeat

I Just avoid the show (and that station) my life and mind are now akin to a zen monk's herb garden.

Some forms of entertainment in this world are made for morons, be vigilant in avoiding them!

I like it, makes me laugh most of the time

Its Jerry Springer for radio. There are plants , some of it is scripted certainly and alot of it is simply winding people up to generate word of mouth. It works well from a figures viewpoint, but like the Jerry Springer Show its gutter radio, lowest common denominator rubbish.

I've got to laugh when people lambast the show for being tacky and gutter radio and then tune into Niall Boylan who isn't exactly the most high brow of talk shows judging by his latest escapade on their Facebook page.

Ultimately, the Phoneshow is brilliant at what it does. It knows what it is and doesn't pretend otherwise. If people are too stupid to realise that Jeremy is being sensationalist and outlandish in a deliberate attempt to get some irked listener on the phone to have a row with in order to give the audience a laugh, then that's no one else's problem. It is an entertaining show and the serious discussions, while sometimes descending into a vitriolic game of slag tennis, are usually a good listen as the topics vary every night and Adrian is generally a fair and solid mediator.

They have undeniably amassed a loyal fanbase and before people mount their high horse and say that it's scum radio, the exchanges between some of them are hilarious. I also don't think they call their trustee outspoken individuals but they probably do let them onto the show whenever they do call. Recently, Jude and Harry have only contributed via the short texts Adrian reads out at the end of each debate. Why is it necessarily a bad thing if the likes of Nikita, Jude, Neville, Harry, Shona, Samantha, Lisa, Joan and Ali get on if they make the show better. It's not like each of them are given airtime EVERY night.

If you don't like the show, don't tune in but it's funny how people seem to know all of the regular callers yet won't hesitate in coming on here and criticising it for being "scum radio". The words "guilty" and "pleasure" spring to mind.

did you hear lisa last night, sticking up for the british women tobe executued in bali?

Didnt have a proper argument and said to all the listeners that they should go **** themselves

Adrain had to cut her off

    quite amusing

She's one of my favourites. It's all style over substance with her. Her argument was so transparent that she had to resort to shouting abuse at the other callers. Love her turn of phrase "You should go to the doctor and get a pill for that case of verbal diarrhoea you've got!" :D

    She's hilarious.

Im still undecided about them in general but they do seem to rile up all the other listeners so it can be quite interesting

Some of them make genuinely valid points which I sometimes agree with but for many callers, their reputation precedes them. Que a stream of angry callers waiting to sink their teeth into one of the known outspoken individuls.

One doesnt need to be a regular listener to take a dislike to any radio programme. I stand resolutely by my, as you put it 'expert' opinion. Each to his own.

I agree, each to his own and you are entitled to your opinion however, "There are plants , some of it is scripted certainly and alot of it is simply winding people up to generate word of mouth." That is not an opinion, that is casting aspersions unless you can prove otherwise??

I absolutely love it! Listen to it as often as I can. A while back I was on a date, and I cut it short in order to get home by 9 to listen to it :)

That show is full of plants to stir it up, a chap I worked with many years ago used to regularly be on there, before he went on he was told what to say

Honest to god. Jumped in a cab and got home from the city centre at 9 on the button! Let's just say, she never text me back. Anyway, I'll be tuning in tonight as always ;)

Adrian Kennedy has just lost the plot with a listener. Someone sent in a text which was according to Adrian And Jeremy possibly the worst text they had ever seen coming into the show. They tried to ring him back, he answered, then Adrian thought he rang the wrong number. Jeremy tried to ring him back and got no answer so number is now been passed onto the Guards. Must have been pretty bad.

that Lisa one has almost stopped me listening. she is imo a plant, when she is giving out "abuse" you can often hear Adrian smirking or talking almost tongue in cheek at her.

Also again last night during the end Adrian goes do you live in ardee? last week it was did you live in laois, do you drive a starlet etc etc

Adrian would never give out personal infor like that

Last week some old woman claimed Lisa was a prostitute and her kids in care , why didn't Adrian use the 10 second delay? Perhaps as Lisa is a fictional character it matters not

    get rid of lisa

For a show to remain 'fresh' and 'interesting' to its 45,000 listeners for so long in my opinion 'plants' would have to be commonplace. Certainly often in the hands of an old pro like Kennedy its conceivable that on a standard night a plant would not necessarily be needed becasue as we know life is often stranger than fiction. However on slow nights and when Kennedy feels he needs to turn up the heat and generate 'controversy' it would not surprise me at all if 'plants' were used. It still astounds me that so many people choose to listen to such cliched gutter jerry springer-like rubbish but each to his own.

I used to call in alot playing different characters with different accents etc.

This was just fun on my part though, the producers of the show never knew and I always called from a different number to the last time.

I used to like having fun with people... I once managed to turn a conversation about how disgraceful it is that old men are bringing back gold digging wives from Thailand etc around so that everyone was convinced that the poor old men were being taken advantage of and that we should feel sorry for them.

I'm pretty sure I did this under my scumbag persona although I can't for the life of me remember the character's name now. Jason I think...

    BUMP.

Seriously though, did anyone her the controversy on the show the other night, Aidrian telling a caller to F**k off, seemed like harmless fun. Audio is here. http://radionation.ie/2013/07/kennedy-tells-caller-to-f-off-on-air/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,821 ✭✭✭fussyonion

I don't listen to the show anymore; it's blatantly obvious a lot of these controversial callers are actors or listeners ASKED to call in and start a row.
If that wasn't acting then Adrian was extremely unprofessional to tell "Breda" to fcuk off, whether he bleeped the word or not.

That guy "John" who was on the show tonight always has a different story. About a year ago he denied ever been a taxi driver now he admits he was one.

I wonder is the guy for real ? nobody could be that inarticulate.

He sounds like someone that is just on the show to wind people up.

Niall Boylan pulled a similar stunt last week and went on a weeks holidays for a while after while he was "suspended". Presume he came home to keep his 5 listeners happy.

If you take notice you'll notice they have a lot of digs aimed at Niall Boylan on FM104's Phoneshow, eg Jeremy going "I have the fastest growing muscle in Ireland, it's still tiny tho", in response to Boylan's listener figures etc
