Am i correct in saying that when measuring a rectangular field you multiply the length by width and divide by 4840?

Length (in Meters) by Width (in Meters). Will give you M2 (meter squared).
Divide by 10,000 to get Hectares.

To convert to Acres, multiply by 2.471.

    So a field 178m x 203m = 3.61 Hectares or 8.92 Acres.
Or in feet and acres, 43559.66 Ft Squared = 1 Acre

Only really works on the pc but I use it all the time. Search for" measuring area with google maps" and follow the link to the daft logic site.. it uses google maps so once you have your areas covered you can measure area and excl rough area.. also does length which is handy for fencing and water pipes...

If you have an andriod phone, theres an app called "Smartarea"
and "GPS Area Measure" which are free. Great job if you a big awkward shaped field.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=at.mkw.smartarea

Its probably avail for the IPhone aswell

I always found www.surveying.org to be the handiest website. Again, based on google maps

surveying.org gives you length too but when getting the area you cant click into the shaded area for going odd shaped fields

In that case what I do is click to add a point and then you can drag that back into the spot you want it
