April 2013 Coin Fair

Did anyone go to the coin fair in the RDS on Sunday?

I went. It didn't seem very busy. It was quite cramped and not many sellers. Also, I got the impressions all the prices had been raised for some reason. I saw annual coin sets that are still available for 25 from the central bank on sellers table for 40 and 50 Euro. Proof sets that are still available for 80, priced at 90 and 100. I was looking for a 2009 15 Euro GAA Silver coin and was expecting to pay around 60 but the three sellers who had them were all looking for 120.

The one very interesting thing I did see was that there was a dealer there who had around twenty 1986 coin sets. They were all in perfect condition with no glue leakage or damage. He was looking for 500 Euro each for them.

I went up, took me around 20 minutes to look around, very little value there

I'm not surprised it was quiet as the fair is a well kept secret.

thats true, I only heard about it at half 6 saturday, you would think they would have the common sense to take everyones number that comes in the door and text them about the upcoming fairs

The fair was mentioned in the most recent issue of An Post's "the collector" magazine; that's where I heard it from.

I got there around 11.15, the 2 women issuing tickets at the door were surprised to see an entry coupon which I printed off online. They had to call another organiser to validate it. I thought it was a bit ridiculous.

I was looking for a Celtic cross gold coin but couldn't find one reasonably priced (got a quote of 75 euro). Despite this, I and a friend enjoyed our time there and got a few decent bargains.

I knew it was on because Blade posted it in the MARKETS & FAIRS - DATES and LOCATIONS Sticky at the top of the page about a week ago.

MasterSun, 75 Euro for a Celtic Cross coin sounds very good to me. I have not seen one sell for that low a price in a long time.

Was just going to say that, 75 Euro for a Celtic Cross if it had it's original box and cert. is a damn good price. 500 Euro for the 1986 sets with no glue problems is not a bad price either, but you might even have haggled him down a bit on that if he had 20 of them, especially now that cash is a bit tight for everyone.

I know that April fair is on every year but I stopped going to it 4 or 5 years ago as there was never much there coin wise, just a few Irish dealers that I can contact anytime I want anyway. But the first notification I got of the dates was from the An Post Collectors news mag.

DMcL, Mike Cooley gave me a good deal on the GAA silver but that was a couple of years ago.

Any chance anyone know the name of the English dealer opposite the An Post stand at the Fair. He had a large selection of Gold coins.

is there a reason your posting this as its the second thread you've done it in. ???

    Correction 5 threads

And the rest! I'm still deleting them now, have already deleted 6 or 7 of them and had to ban them for 5 days to stop the spam as they're dragging up every bloody ancient coin thread! I even sent them a PM to say that it's already advertised on the Markets and Fairs sticky.
