SSD Cache drive

    Allo all,

I have seen people mention an ssd cache drive (small 40gb ssd) used as a cache.

Is the price relative to performance increase?

I ask as i stupidly neglected to include a full sized ssd in my new system, and am looking at ways of decreasing loads times without having to wipe my windows installation (by adding full-fat ssd).

Is it possible to just plug and play with these things, or is it necessary to wipe my windows installation?

    CC.

Price will be relative, you can get an older slower one, and it'll still perform faster than a disk drive. On the proper end, you can pick up a 120GB for €90 (http://www.hardwareversand.de/Solid-State-Disk/67795/Samsung+SSD+840+120GB+SATA+6Gb+s.article) or a 60gb for 60 (http://www.hardwareversand.de/Solid-State-Disk/73846/Kingston+SSDNow+V300+60GB+SATA+III.article)

If you want to speed up your boot times, you're going to want the complete windows installation on ssd. it's not hard to copy the c:users/yournamehere over to the new installation, and that's 90% of the work.
My setup is OS, pagefile + fave game/s on my ssd, program files and the rest of my games on a secondary, and all my media on my big slow drive.

Get a samgung drive, comes with software to transfer you boot drive to the SSD, only takes a few minutes and your off with all your OS and settings intact. There are also a number of free drive copy utilities however they are less intuitive.

You will want to look into changing certain settings if copying a windows installation from a hdd to an ssd.
