    Hi,

I'm looking for some advise for a skiing holiday (honeymoon) in Europe in early/mid November.
What resorts are open at that time? This will be our first skiing holiday so probably gentle slopes only.
What kind of options do we have?

    Thanks

    Hintertux Glacier, Austria

As it's the first one maybe some larger resort with other things to do too.
    Austria is still excellent.

Croatis is supposedly good too, I haven't been myself.

    Cmar-Ireland -

Options are below by country - General warning, at that time of the year anything can happen or go on in relation to the weather etc. Resorts tend to be much quieter and some shops and stuff like that will be closed transfers can be a little harder to arrange to. But it can be much cheaper and some times you will get really lucky.

    Austira

Hintertux is great but the only run Down from the top of the Gondola which is were you will be in November is Red narrow and steep! But once you are over that its amazing. Really pretty area, resort is a bit small and quiet.

Stubai, not much terrain open in November and can be hit and miss at the best of time

Kaprun, Small glacier but a nice town and you can stay in Zell em Zee on the lake very pretty.

    France
Tignes, I skied powder there November just gone, not a pretty resort by any standard. But there is tons to do and the skiing is pretty good and plenty of options for beginners.

Les Deux Alps; Really good glacier set up especially at that time of the year. Cheap to but the open a little later.

    Switzerland
Saas Fee- Pricey, but pretty, romantic and plenty of skiing at that time of the year. Very pricey though ha ha. Big fan love the place

Zermatt / Cervina you can stay in Cervinia and travel up to the Zermatt glacier and have access to the same terrain for about 1/2 the price of staying in Zermatt but they share the same area. A little flat but plenty for a first timer and the mighty Matterhorn as a backdrop!

    Thanks for the replies.

Zermatt / Cervinia seem to be areas that open up earlier than a lot of other resorts. Are there any operators offering packages to these areas?
Do the resorts provide ski gear to beginners?

Also as you mention biko, we are looking for somewhere with other activities apart from skiing.

The period from November/December through to April usually offers excellent snow conditions in Stryn and Nordfjord, although because of the high mountains and the climate skiing is possible almost year round here. Ski lifts are available in Stryn, Gloppen, Eid and Hornindal.

Cmar-Ireland In terms of opening Length - Hintertux is open 365 days a year after that

Tignes and Saas Fee close for May and open again in early June

Packages during the summer are almost non existent but it is easy to do on your own. For Cevinia, Saas Fee Zermatt and Tignes you can fly to Geneva and get the train or transfers from your hotels.

Hintertux - Munich and drive or train and bus.

The best with loads to do in the summer are Tignes & Saas Fee

Tignes has a massive lake with water jumps and tons of stuff going on of the glacier.

Saas Fee is the same tons of stuff to do off the hill.

Zermatt will have tons to do but Cervinia will be a little quieter.

    Hintertux is a little quieter.

I have been in all at that time of the year and it really is lucky dip it.

A few years back we went to Zakopane, Poland.
Took a day trip to Auschwitz too. Very enlightening.
We went in Feb I think but Nov should be good too.
Krakow is next door, lots of culture.

Another good one is Tres Vallees.

Zakopane does not open till early Dec and even then is sketchy as are most resorts unless there is a glavier

For the 3 Valleys only Val thorens is reliable in early Nov and will have limited open areas
