Just heard on the radio that Avon.ie has ceased trading as of from today!

    http://www.avon.ie/cease.html

Seems to be the case that this wasnt communicated at all down to their representatives.

Jeeeze that's dreadful news but doesnt surprise me. From talking to Agents the business has been in decline for a few years. I see they are launching an online consumer site so they are in effect cutting out the middle man! Dissappointing.

It's sad, just spoke to someone I knew who was an agent, she had no idea! Thankfully it wasn't her sole income and it was always an extra earner on the side, there'll be others who aren't so lucky!

Its maddening that there wasnt even a bit of warning to reps and developers. Im a rep and although I never made much from it, i loved doing it. For me it was more of a hobby and I wish I had gotten some notice before it just stopped all of a sudden!

It's shocking they didn't even give the reps any notice! Bad form.

My wife is a distributor and is left owing Avon a lot of money .The reason the reps are refusing to pay her for the last order because the company has ceased. I wonder what is my wife's legal position she is also refusing to pay Avon.
    There was no warning .

I would imagine if it went to court she would have to pay them what they are owed. She could then in turn take the reps to court for what they owe to get her money back.

Unless she owes a significant amount of money (like 10's of thousands) I can't see Avon pursuing her tbh. They are getting enough bad PR from pulling out on such short notice in the first place i doubt they want to draw any more media attention to themselves than is strictly necessary. They might send a letter or two requesting the money but I can't see them taking it as far as court.

I wouldnt mind but I think they missed a big money making opportunity by not giving notice. I think if regular customers here knew they couldnt order their favourite products after a certain campaign, they would order loads of it! I had customers that ordered the same thing over and over and now they need to go out and find an alternative. They would definitely have bought loads of them from me if they knew!

Or they also could have set themselves up for a lot of fraud. Reps with nothing to lose ordering tonnes of stuff with no intention of paying for it.

The products might become rare and wanted in the future.Market sales perhaps.
Some are giving back returns as payment.

My ex wife has got job offers from other sales companies .
They want the reps she can choose the best for sales and payment to continue.
    Funny old world.

Well if they did that Avon would just send the debt collectors, simple as. They would never get away with it.

I think Avon are terrible for doing what they have done. They gave Reps/ Business Developers no notice what so ever just made that shock announcement earlier this week.

I have seen lots and lots of Avon advertisements over the years about their supporting woman campaigns - seems like a bit of a joke now.

I ordered from them at least 10 times per year, some small orders and some large and I became quite friendly with the rep in my area so I see all the hard work she put in. To her it was great as she has small kids and is a stay at home mum so she regarded it as a way of earning extra cash but also it got her out and about meeting people etc, to think that after her years of hard work and the many many other Reps like her in Ireland, that Avon didn't have the decency to let them know that this was occurring - even an e-mail to inform them all would have been something, to acknowledge their hard work and their regret that they are having to do this.

My Rep called me last night to say that the order I placed at the beginning of last week will not be honoured.

Good riddance I say, I would rather spend my money on somebody that respects their reps etc.

Is ebay or having friends or relatives in UK the only way now to buy Avon products?

I see some Irish magazines still show Avon products in Euro prices

I assume Avon.co.uk don't ship to Ireland still

I'm not sure if the uk site ships to Ireland, but if it doesn't you can always use Parcel Motel or some other parcel forwarding service. http://www.parcelmotel.com/

It costs €3.50 to use and they give you a UK address that you can have your package shipped to. They then forward the package on to whatever location you tell them too. I've used it a couple of times, it's super handy.

It's often good even if the site you are dealing with ships to Ireland because sometimes people charge a fortune for it. Like I recently ordered from a make up site in the UK that wanted nearly €10 to ship to me but they did free delivery to anywhere in the UK so I saved €6.50 by using Parcel Motel.
