Hi. I am currently employed full-time but I want to return to school to study childcare. Can anyone tell me am I entitled full benefits even if I leave a full-time job? I have been given different answers from certain offices and I'm posting here to see if anyone has done this. The main issue that comes up is the fact that I am currently employed. I have never claimed any social welfare payments and have been working and paying all taxes,PRSI etc. for over 20 years in Ireland. Any help given will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If your giving up a full time job for any reason including returning to te classroom, you will be disqaulified from claiming Jobseekers Benefit for possibly 9 weeks.
In order to qualify for the BTEA which is the SW payment suitable for people doing a full time course, you need to have been in receipt of Jobseekers benefit for 9 months.
As you can only get Jobseekers Benefit now for a maximum of 9 months, then any disqaulification will mean you will not be eligible for BTEA.
However, you may still qualify for BTEA if, when our JSB comes to an end, you then qaulify for Jobseekers Allowance, which is means-tested.
