Quick question... commerical for private use

    Im after buying a focus literally only a week ago but met a chap in the pub there at the weekend and we got talking and one thing lead to another and he let me test drive his caddy. Said he'd swap me for the focus if I wanted (and with some cash my way).

    He has it down as commerical at the minute. Is there any kind of fee to change from commercial tax to private tax?


    EDIT: Oh and roughly what would I be looking at to tax a 1.9 diesel caddy 2001?

    If its a 1.9 caddy it would be taxed under cc privately afaik and it would be over 700 to tax. Commerical tax is around 330 so its a good bit more. Is the focus you have 1.6 and is that taxed commerically?

    EDIT the caddy is 673 to tax privately or 333 euro to tax commerically there the 2013 tax rates

    Yeh the focus is under private tax alright. ANd yep its the 1.6

    Damn, thats a fair amount of tax every year. And is there a "change over" fee or anything I should know about, like when your changing from commercial to private tax.

    There is a fee. 12 % of market value I think.

    Maybe not. That's for changing to a campervan only.

    No there isn't. I changed my van from commerical to private tax and paid no fees I only paid whatever the cc rate was. Op you pay 673 euro for the caddy privatly that's it.
