Getting Grass to gorw

    HI

I am having serious problems trying to get grass to grow and establish in my front garden. Last year I cut down the existing lawn (which was brutal) down to the minimum and forked and scoured the surface. I than placed a nice layer of compost /peat on top and spread grass seed evenly on top and than a light scattering of compost/peat again and a light raking. The grass grew which I was happy with and it looked reasonably well throughout the year. I had my first cut there beginning of March and all I can say is, the lawn now looks terrible. Its patchy, bare and in some places its just non-existent. May Garden is North facing so I only get sunlight from around 4.30pm onwards. Has anyone any tips on how I should proceed to get a full luscious lawn to establish all year round. Is there a seed that will grow in all types of area shaded/dry/minimal sun.

    Any help would be great,

    Cheers

    Matjay
