Water Filtration system - lime and 'grit'

Hi - we have quite a bit of lime in our water (from our own well) and fine sand like grit. Up to now we've managed on bottled water and filter jugs/kettles. Surprisingly, the appliances haven't faired too badly, but it's only a matter of time.

Anyone any advise on a filtration system for lime and grit for the whole house - showers, drinking water, washing machines etc?

    Thanks!
    A

For the Sand problem. Your suction Pipe or Pump might be to close to the bottom of the Well. If you lift it up a couple of feet it most likely will cure the problem. What happens is when the pump starts it disturbed the sand and then it gets sucked up in the Water.
Do you have a Liner in the Well.
Sand will have an adverse effect on your Pump.
You should also put a first stage strainer filter which will also take the sand out of the Water.
As to the Limescale. You will need to get a Water Softener to cure the Limescale. There are many companies who sell them if you search online.
