Henry Fadipe has recently been signed to Africa's biggest promotion EFC Africa. We are very excited by this & he makes his debut April 19th in Johannesburg South Africa. The fight will be live on Facebook & he takes on the experienced Tumelo Maphutha who holds the fastest KO record in EFC at 7 seconds. Following Conor McGregor & Norman Parkes success we hope that Henry can be the next to do Irish MMA proud

Of course. You're more than welcome to. But posting things just like this..

......and saying nothing else doesn't really help anyone and certainly doesn't get a discussion going.

It's a pity alright, only way to watch live is to purchase the PPV from their website unfortunately, but its a very good show

seen the video of his ko.

The first elbow clearly ko'd him.

Heard at the post fight conference that the promoter would rather Henry fight for title as he is a finisher than the current no.1 guy.

Yeah they are looking at Henry vs Dino Bagattin for possibly mid 2014 as Dino is currently recovering from an eye issue. So hopefully we'll have official confirmation early next year. Should make for a good scrap as Dino likes to stand & bang

I think fadipe is a great talent and exciting to watch. Can he only fight for EFC Africa now or could he fight for another organisation ? What weight is Tom Kong Watson fighting at now ? Who would be fadipe's main contenders in the uk and Ireland ? Also what kind of level is the EFC belt at ? Obviously not as prestigious as UFC but above say the old "cage rage" ?

I would say in around the same level as Cage Warriors but I'm open to correction

Well back in the day it wouldnt be unusual to see a short term title holder make it to the ufc for a stint. Genuine question. How many efc title holders make it to the ufc?

Honestly wouldn't know . Couldn't find a list of former holders online either.

Henry at the moment is not exclusive to EFC. They understand that at 22 he needs to keep active & building his reputation so they are happy for him to compete on other organisations, outside of Africa. However, should he become a title holder then they would require him to become exclusive to their organisation. The promotion itself, is only 3-4 years old as I'm aware, & the production is quite amazing considering the short time they are around. The continent has really got behind the show & Henry's recent fight was held in the 19,000 seat Coca Cola Dome. They model themselves on being as close to the UFC experience as fighters/fans will get, outside of UFC itself. MMA within Africa is still growing, & in my opinion is probably where the Irish scene was 3-4 years ago. In saying that, their top guys are of a good standard, but not quite UFC standard just yet. We are very happy for Henry to be afforded an opportunity with the promotion, as its not been an easy start to life as a pro for him, but he's maturing into the prospect we always believed he could become, & it's an amazing stage for him to perform on. I believe that winning a title on the show would be a big step for us & Henry, but any talk of a jump to UFC I feel is still very very premature. As I said, he's still 22 & we are happy for him to take his time & keep on learning his trade

Out of curiosity what's that on his left bicep? Is it just a tattoo?

It's an armband that the fighters wore in respect to Nelson Mandela

IMO I think EFC is better than cage warriors. Talent they have is unreal.

I have been watching it the past few years.

I am also surprised that the ufc has not snapped any of the fighter up.

maybe they are waiting to venture to africa as they said a year back. Honestly, the talent and power these guys have in unreal

Saw some of EFC Africa for the 1st time last night & tbh the fights I saw were not great.

The first one I saw was 2 heavyweight sluggers with limited looking skill (one of them has a severe muffin top) but the channel got changed due to lack of interest. Later I tuned back in to see some 40yr old guy called Van Damme making his debut against an Egyptian guy with a 7-2 record who I think they said was a former champion!, possibly the worst fight I have ever seen.
The next fight was a 20 second KO in the lightweight division to end the program.

In fairness the set up etc followed an identical format to the UFC with the exception of a hexagon instead of Octagon but the arena seemed to be half empty.
Maybe I was just unlucky with the bits I saw but wouldn't be in a rush to tune in again.
Any links to the top fighters or fights?

Check out guys like Demarte Pena, Ruan Potts, Dino Bagattin, Adam Speechly, Costa Ioannu, Don Madge, Tyron Rightford, JP Kruger, Gareth McClellan, Andrew Van Zyl. Obviously not household names to anyone outside of African MMA but guys like Madge would be well known for Muay Thai before moving to MMA. These guys would be at the top of their divisions & are exciting to watch. The standard is certainly getting there, a long way off of UFC level but they will get there over the next couple of years I'm sure

Also expect to have a date for Henry's next appearance on the show very soon. He'll be taking on Champ Dino Bagattin for the Welterweight Title

Dino Bagattin ! Wow that will be some fight guys. Would be nice if you guys had an open day or something for us to come down and watch Henry train before the fight. Wishing the Fadipe team every success in 2014.

Yeah I was watching this too. But as far as i know, The fights broadcasted at that time where not from the same events. They were hand picked fights from the very very Earlier shows.. also i believe they were what would be the "Prelims" (if even up to that) of the shows The main fights came after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭Mattyz69

I had the pleasure of training along with Ruan Potts a few years back when i took a trip to the wolfslair and have been trying to follow the EFC since.

Potts was a gentleman and hit like a truck and unreal on the ground.

Great to see Henry doing so well and hopefully 2014 might see a title shot come his way!!

Well its been announced by EFC Africa now, Henry will be facing current WW Champ Dino Bagattin on 1st May for the title

Interesting to note that UFC have signed EFC Heavyweight Champion Ruan Potts to a 6 fight contract. Great to see that the promotion is on the UFC's radar.
