I am looking to get a pair of Pocketwizards from Amazon.co.uk they seem to be working out reasonable enough €339. I am going to post them using Parcel Motel where i get my first Two shipments free. My Question is will i be charged Duty when i pick them up at their final destination, which will be galway?

Edit* The final sterling price is £227 and when converted using XE Currencey converter its €267.35 but when amazone converts it the final price is €339.40 and thats with free shipping and Vat to Northern Ireland? So what am i missing, why such a jump in price?

    Thanks.

You shouldn't have to pay duty on anything originating in the Eu.
Its a bummer Amazon.uk is in sterling. You could try ordering from Amazon.de then the total transaction will be in Euro.

You are give the choice of having the total in Euro or sterling. The final sterling price is £227 but when its converted to Euro by Amazon the Total price is €339.40 but when you use a live Currency converter and convert £227 the Conversion is €267.35.

They are screwing you on the conversion, you could pay in sterking and get what ever rate your CC company will give you (probably just as bad TBH)

They do you no favours on the conversion rate, but they also charge the Irish rate of vat on entry, so that bumps it up. No duty is charged on EU transactions.

Use Flubit.com too for another ~11% discount.

Hang on, those prices can't be right... Do you have a link to the item?

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/PocketWizard-E-TTL-Radio-Transmitter-Canon/dp/B001TAPOQ0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1365449058&sr=8-4&keywords=pocket+wizard

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/PocketWizard-Flex-Canon-Transceiver-Control/dp/B001TANZ0W/ref=pd_sim_ph_1

So even though they are quoting me a sterling price of £227 will i be charged the conversion rate on the day by my Credit Card provider and/or will i be charged the Amazon conversion rate.

Before buying a pocketwizard look at the pixel king range, I spent a lot of time looking into a good set of transmitter/recievers for my wife and these ticked all the boxes a pocketwizard did for a lot less.

I'll second the Pixel Kings, use them all the time.

The PW flex don't work properly with Canon flashes either without some kind of RF shielding.

Out of context this is brilliant! So where did you get them in the end?

Thats for the Pixel King, Pocketwizards are twice that.

TBH I couldnt find any advantage the Pocketwizards had over the pixel kings as both, unlike cheaper senders/recievers. do zones, ittl passthrough and so on.

Even cheaper again and every bit as good, check out the Yongnuo yn622 transievers. Im using them now with the Yongnuo 568 flashes and they work a treat. They allow me full manual control over 3 seperate groups of flashes all from the camera menus. They support ETTL and can switch ETTL ratios again from from the in camera menu. Its a very nice change not to have to go near my flashes and have full control of everything from within the camera during a shoot.
