    Hi everyone,

I am going to start to learn to play guitar.
Can anyone recommend a tuner I could buy.
There are a few on Ebay that are reasonable but I don't know if they are any good.

    any advice is really appreciated.

These clip on headstock ones are pretty cool, inexpensive and good for electric and acoustic

if you have a smart phone, there are lots of apps now with tuners. no real need for a stage tuner unless/until you're playing live IMO

If your lap-top (Windows/Mac/Linux/etc) has a mic there's a wealth of free tuners available to download. Just be aware that those mics can pick up background noise.

There are great apps that include tuners which are very accurate. I have one of those clip on tuners and while handy the one I have on iPhone (guitar toolkit) is better IMO. Highly recommend.

    Jamplay also includes a tuner.

What he said. Even the "ultimate guitar archive" app has a tuner you can unlock for a couple of bucks

If you have a landline, that dial tone is 440Hz (well it used to be anyways), which is equivalent to the open A string.
