    Hi,

Would anyone know where would be the best place to source stock photos of life in 19th century New York and the USA in general?

I have tried Getty images but I must be searching wrong as the selection is very poor.

would pretty much all photos from then not be royalty free since the guts of their copyrights would have expired?

flickr commons collections would be a good bet, U.S. national archives, Library of congress, smithsonian etc etc.
