Just looking for some advice and interested in hearing if other people are in a similar situation. I served my time as a electrician and became qualified in 2009. But since then i cant find a job in my trade. With every month that passes i feel that its going to get harder to get back into the trade. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did you find it hard to get a job after being away from it for so long? I am currently working in security but its just not what i want to do i feel like im wasting my trade. I am sending out cvs but get the odd reply's saying not enough experience.

If you have no ties, I'd be looking to head out. UK, Canada, Oz, NZ. The possibilities for you are endless.

Have you done any further training, my cousin is also an electrician who has done extra courses in industrial automation, and refrigeration / air conditioning, and has had no problem finding solid work.

Myself im a qualified plumber and have returned to do a degree in building services engineering, although i had solid work i returned by choice.

If you cant find work then you should be upskilling, or emigrating.

Maybe do some training as an auto-electrician?

Have you looked into wind farm maintenance? As a qualified spark you would be guaranteed a place on any course, and its going to be a big employer in years to come
