I am considering changing the colour on my classic car from grey to blue. Anyone know how easy it is and what the county council (Motor tax office) will charge for this minor change? any paperwork to complete?

Its free, but they usually want to inspect the cars now. They have become very strict on changes lately.

No harm really, they would want to inspect some stuff a bit more.

Yes there was a lot of the old 1.8 M3 sort of thing going on. They double check everything with the garage that stamped forms etc now, so its largely finished with. If only people focused their efforts on the bigger picture and not their own situation maybe things would change for the better.

Last year I changed the colour on my MGA. I also changed the engine from a 1.6 to a 1.8.. Completed the forms and sent away. Details were changed on the Reg documents without any inspection, no problems at all.

I suppose they wouldn't be too worried about an inspection when you are enlarging the engine size, besides you are in the vintage tax bracket so they can't sting you for more tax.

a couple of years ago I swapped from 1.8 petrol to 1.6 diesel in my "youngtimer" '95 Passat daily driver. Went in with the RF111 form, stamped by the garage. No questions asked. Tax bracket reduced.

Better fuel economy and less tax. Winner all round ;)
