Got an 03 opel astra 1.7 dti, as pass week I was having problems with it as went out in the morning and battery flat… when I would get the car started I would have no power steering for several minutes but then all would be ok after that...
Today I went out to start it and as usual wouldn’t start and no power steering but this time battery light remained on and no power steering at all and still remains like this.
I was told it was a alternator or simple belt problem,
Can these alternators be fixed easy as they are expensive to buy new
    Anyone any idea

    Ta

sounds like a aux belt issue

if the alt is fecked a recon one would be around 120

1st thing to do is check the belt and go from there

    Cheers,belt seems ok not broken..
Alternator seems to be near the bottom in these..

would it be ok to still drive the car?

    From my experience
the sooner you get the alternator checked out the better or you will see a puff of smoke coming from it and then you will not be able to get it reconditioned, you will have to get a new one.

not til u get it checked

if the bat light is on and the P/S isnt working it has to be a belt issue(unless its elec P/S)

yes its electric p/s...I took it to work this morning 6 miles up the road, battery light was always on as expected but the engine management, abs, airbag and come on too a few mile up the road,
I also lost the speedo as kept flickering But probably due to a dying battery
