Best Value Bike Computer with 150euro budget..

Hi all

At the moment I have a Union bike computer, basic basic basic.
I am just looking to upgrade, try and use it as a motivation for working harder on the saddle.

Any suggestion of a good value Bike Computer, something with Cadence, Heart Rate, maybe Mapping too if the budget works that way..

You'd want to be off your chuck to be willing to spend €150 on a bike computer and not be willing to put the extra few quid in for a Garmin 500.

If you have a smart phone you can use the STRAVA app.

But as others have said, if you have a budget of €150, don't waste it on a stand alone computer. I'd say you'd get a Garmin 200 for that or even a Garmin Forerunner watch for less (designed for running but will work on the bike).

150 is on the limit really. The Garmin 500 is lovely, no other options out there??

If you can live without heart rate and cadence, the Edge 200.

I agree on this, Iv gone down the smartphone app road and its not as effective

Totally agree - I don't use it myself but was just giving it as an option. (I think you can get a handlebar mount but it would look very bulky.)

I also believe it hard on the battery. Not much good if you get a big mechanical and need to make a rescue call.

I might sell my Garmin Edge 200 in a few days (I'm waiting on delivery of a new 800 to replace it) if you're interested OP?

Its 10 months old. I bought it new from Eurocycles in Dublin. Still have the manual and receipt. Its in perfect nick, no scratches or marks and I think there's two months warranty left on it. €90.

Something with Cadence and Heart rate id like to get, gps wouldnt be as important but id like it too if I could at all. Im not being awkward at all :pac:



Id like to improve fitness essentially, Cadence and Heartrate is useful for this I believe ??

getting out and riding your bike is the most effective thing

I find them to be the least useful features, to be honest.
The GPS is what I would use most. I did get the HRM and cadence with my Edge 500, but I don't tend to bother with them anymore. After a while you'll end up having a fair idea of both without using any equipment.

In your position I would get the Edge 200 for recording where you've been and speeds you're doing. The data can be used for comparisons over time. Sites like Strava can be quite useful for motivation as you "race" against yourself and others.
Then just get a cheapo 2nd computer with HRM and/or cadence if you want to see that data as well.

I've a garmin 305 that I'm sell (can't link to it at the moment as I'm on a phone). It comes with a hrm strap. Cadence sensor is around 30-35 on amazon.co.uk so you'd have hrm and cadance for about your 150 limit. Let me know if you are interested

Garmin's like the Edge 200 or 500, do they have the magnet sensors that go on the wheel, or is it solely GPS?

They only have the magnet sensors if you get a bundle with the speed/cadence sensor (GSC-10). Speed from GPS is fine though, unless you plan to use it on stationary trainer sometimes. I wouldn't be too worried about a cadence sensor unless you are planning to do drills at specific cadences. It it's just for leisure/fitness, just keep your cadence reasonably high - you don't really need the numbers.

Hi ya, its just for fitness really. I have a heart rate strap and watch, so i dont necesserarly need that on the bike, was just hoping to get the Gps and Cadence now.

I think it's very difficult to do any sort of structured training without a HR meter (or a Power Meter obviously) - certainly for me I use the HR function on my 500 every time I ride!

OP, on the handtec.co.uk link a few posts back there is an edge 500 with heart rate srap and cadence sensor for €168, you'd be mental to not thow the extra €20 in and get that if you are willing to spend 150.
