    Campion do the vintage policy for the IVETA. Can't remember who my 101 policy is with but it's via the IVS and costs €148 plus €25 IVS membership.

    I might be looking at a Land Rover also in the coming days, a series 3 which has been restored for 4x4 trial type use. Changed rims, tyres, full role cage with a 2L TDI engine. I'm guessing at the mo the engine is from sometime more recent.

    Who would be best to get an insurance quote for this? Can I get classic car insurance or would I need to get 'modified' insurance?
    I have spoken to a company already for classic insurance and they kinda warned me that anything considered 'modified' is anything that wasn't on it when it rolled off the factory line.

    Any points/help would be great.

    You could have fun but trying to insure it. Don't try doing it over the phone, go in to a brokers office. Axa had no problem with my modded 110 but that was a full comprehensive passenger policy.

    If it's a series 3 with a transplanted Tdi out of a later Land Rover it will be 2495cc. Some ex UK conversions may have a 2.0l Perkins Prima out of a Montego.

    Thanks for the info, did you ever have your 101 insured via IVS/FBD or just brokers?

    I'd be happy with 3rd party really, just want to know if I'd ever be able to insure the beast :)

    I can't recall the insurer but it's via the IVS. I'll be switching to IVETA via Campions as it's local next time round.

    With third party I suppose it's academic how the vehicle is modified as they're obliged to pay out anyway.

    In the UK there's loads of insurers that will cover heavily modded 4x4s and you can insure any military vehicle fully comp inc recovery for around £150. No hope of that here although I was chatting a guy at a show from Carole Nash a couple of years ago who was supposed to be more in to classics.

    Looks like Carole Nash have also moved into classic cars;

    I might give them a shout when mine is up for renewal, always been a touch unhappy insuring €8000 worth of 101 and trailer just third party but asking for more just confuses companies here!
