I've been accepted to do the PDE at UCD and was wondering it is doable to commute there from Co. Kildare, and what is the parking situation like at the education department/building at UCD? Where is it exactly situated?

Moved from Teaching and Lecturing - not a Teaching issue.

    Hey
I've commuted to UCD from baltinglass, west Wicklow for the last 4 years! Approximately 40 miles to UCD from my house
Is it doable? Absolutely ! Is it exhausting? Absolutely!
So it depends on how dedicated you are & how much you want to do the course
Parking is okay once you get in before 8.50 - after that it's mayhem

I'm not sure of the building that you are referring to so can't help you there sorry
I also know a girl who commutes from new bridge - It is definitely possible

    Best of luck

That sucks, because I'll have teaching practice every morning from 9am to 1pm wherever I do it... and then I have to be in college in UCD for 2pm every day :(

Doing the PDE at the moment and while I don't drive myself, I get a lift to UCD from our school every day. Get to UCD at about 1.15 and always manage to find parking somewhere. Sometimes we have to do pay parking but it's 50c an hour and 4 hours is our longest day.

So would you say there's no problem and that's doable? Where is the education dept. located on campus? I don't know UCD at all... Is it direct to get to - UCD in general and/or the education building?

Education Dept is in the Arts Block-Unless its changed in the intervening years....very easy to find-between the lake and the Restaurant building, opposite Admin building.

oops-sorry! It used to be in the Arts Block but I just checked the website and now seems to be in Roebuck (see map) that's the other side of the campus and I think you get there from Fosters Avenue instead of the main UCD entrance. Best to check with the School Of Ed. office.

According to this year's timetable for the education course, a lot of the lectures are in "Newman" (Theatre P, and G109) for example... is that in Roebuck or the arts block?

I would say it's doable! The education department is in Roebuck but we have nearly all of our lectures in Newman (the Arts building). Plenty of parking around it and even if you end up further away, the walk isn't too long.

The closer you leave it to 2pm to arrive, the better your chance of parking to be honest. If you were arriving at around 11am I'd say get the bus. Classes finish at 10 to the hour so you best bet of finding someone leaving is on the hour or after lunch.
