I have my test monday 9am , but I don't have a car and have not had a car for the last 8 months as I cycle everywhere , but I do want to keep a valid provisional licence in case I need to drive or pick my dad(full license) in his car(I'm insured on) at times when he's not feeling well.

I need a letter of failure to reapply for my provisional , can I just turn up with no car and get a letter from the instructor on monday.

    In case people ask.

Reasons I won't take the test.

    1. Can't afford lessons.
    2. Can't afford to park a car(city dweller)
    3. Don't have a car.

If you are insured on his car why don't you borrow it for the test or ask any driving instructor what the charge is to use theirs for the test

2 reasons, I won't be able to get a car for monday(or afford one) and I have never had a driving lesson , I won't have a clue how to pass the test due to the x amount of bad habits I have.

So I don't feel like spending 30+ minutes driving someone around just to be told I failed

You could have just applied for it and cancelled the test in order to get your learner permit. You can cancel 2 tests and not lose your fee. That however, is too late now.

sorry but you say you have no idea how to drive but want your licence so you can go drive??? Go do the test and pass it. Make us all safer. Find someone to loan you a car and move your insurance temporarily

He wants to keep his provisional license/learner permit (same thing). In order to renew your learner permit, you have to show you've made an effort to pass the test. The OP obviously feels he's competent enough to get around, but not as squeaky clean a driver as he 'should' be to pass the test. :)

Do the test regardless, and then get a mate to show you how to fix what you failed on.

Nothing to lose, everything to gain...

I don't think they'll let him do it on the day if he turns up without the 12 lessons done and stamped.

He says he wants to be able to drive his dad at times? And yet you don't regularly drive?

If you're already insured on your dads car then do lessons in that car.

The op doesn't have to do the EDT lessons. If they did they wouldn't be given a test date without having them done

Fair enough, didn't realize that. I guess they check it in a database before you book?

All pupils who have to do EDT are on what's called "EDT hold" and can't be given a date until all 12 lessons have been uploaded into the system by their ADI. So, it's possible to book but you just wouldn't be given a date until the 12th lesson is in the system and the Hold is removed.
