Hi I really need some help planning our holiday this year. My boyfriend and I are planning on going to Budapest, basing ourselves there and heading on 2 to 3 day trips (or longer if needed) to Austria and Slovenia. The last week of July first week of August is the only time we are available to travel which is probably the worst time to be travelling as it can be quite expensive. We are in our mid 20's and looking for a few days of down time, sight seeing, adventure, sun bathing and then we plan on heading to the festival Sziget in Budapest for two days we would like to see Budapest too. Do you think this is doable any tips on other places we could visit that would be better to see than Vienna or lake Bled. We are open to any suggestions and tips. I was doing a bit of research and I have decided that I will end up with a list of 20 places to see in each country if I kept up my reasearch as everywhere has things we would love to see and do so I decided to step away from the searching or I wont have a boyfriend when I get back ! We tend to be very indecisive so all the help we can get will be much appreciated! We have two weeks in total and have free accomadation in Budapest. Ideally I would love to go to vienna and maybe lake bled slovenia but to be be honest we are open to any suggestions that people may have. Please help!

Lake Bled is very nice but it's a relatively quiet spot with not much to do in the evenings beyond going to a restaurant. If you're after nightlife you'd want to give it a miss. You can chill out beside the lake and hire a boat to row out to the island - there's usually a wedding on every day in the little church on the island. It's also worth walking up to the castle to see the view from the ramparts.

How are you planning to travel from Budapest? I took my family on a driving/camping trip to Salzburg/Lake Bled/Poreč (Croatia) a couple or years ago.

As above, Lake Bled is beautiful but quiet. However, Slovenia is a very small country so you can get to see quite a lot of it in just a few days. Also, it's alpine so not great for sunbathing. If you drive over the border to the Istrian peninsula of Croatia you'll be amazing at how sharp the change is from alpine to olive groves and sun addled Mediterranean country. It has cracking nightlife and clear warm waters. It's also got loads of ancient churches and walled towns. If you fancy a bit of sun, consider making one of your trips to Croatia.
