  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 544 ✭✭✭NewBeefFarmer

zoom back when taking photo . . impossible to judge so focused in.

    first one looks light 280-300
    second one could be 350..

ur going to tell me now its the same animal. .lol

First one looks about 240-280kgs the second is hard to judge as camera is too close. By the way it is hard to judge an animal on slats not to mind in a photo.

sorry about the pictures, if the 1st is 250-280, i'd say the bigger is about 300. She is a bit taller and more filled out. Anyone know how much they would make in the mart atm?

well 2611 if she was n macroom today and if she was 280kg she would be pulling hard to make 430 yoyos ,the light stock were a sad trade.

well i wouldnt argue with that, because i paid 250 for her as calf and dont have to pay for food etc.. i know that sounds unfair, but i did get him a couple of acres of grass to rent for free. i bet you cant guess what age they are! :D both the same age..

    Did you buy them?

yeah, when they were 8weeks old

i think its fair to say if they are around 300 kgs at 23mts of age your uncle was'nt exactly "looking after them" .Don't mean to sound unfair but not great weight gain!

you're right! needless to say, i'm not buying anymore cattle! i dont think they were fed milk for long enough in the beginning, then not enough meal afterwards.

They should have been hitting that weight at 12 months old. They must have been fairly restricted in feed for the 23 months.

Learn from your mistakes. Don't buy Lm bulls. Too dear. Buy a few handier fr bulls or aa, hr x and do them well. They are designed for bucket feeding.

i just thought they were just naturally short. They didnt grow at all taller since last summer, when they had plenty of grass. they havnt got much bigger since 12mths

well if i do, ill get a aa or he so! thanks, i didnt know that. but i dont think i cud depend on the uncle to look after them again (he's kinda known for havin light frs) ive tried tellin him to give more meal, or dat he's puttin too many calves together in one pen etc but he's set in his ways, i give up!

How come you don't feed them yourself if your uncle is so unreliable? So you expect your uncle to rear and buy feeding for your calves at his own expense.

i would only love to feed them myself but he wont let me put them in a field on their own, even fence off a section. i did get him grass worth 1000 lease for free. and at xmas i paid 170 for meal for him. he agreed in the beginning that he would look after them.
