Hope to have a few hours free tomorrow near Nenagh. Any recommended routes for a road bike spin about 60->80km starting there?

nenagh-birdhill ( taking a right here for o'briens bridge)-o'briens bridge-killaloe(crossing into ballina and left for Portroe)-Portroe-Nenagh. Should be in the 70k range and pretty scenic second half as well. Weather looks like you'll be able to make the most of it as well. Nice bit of climbing into Portroe :)

Plenty of routes to choose from, you will find details of three leisure routes here http://www.northtippcycling.com I would suggest route 1 - (82Km).

The route is fully signposted and you will find signboards in the key villages along the route

Alternatively you could try the A3 or A4 route from the Visit Nenagh Classic, routes here: http://www.visitnenagh.net.

Going to be a perfect day for cycling in the area - hope you enjoy it.

Route 2 on that list is great :)

You could extend it a bit if you wanted to head from Portroe towards Ballina, take a break at The Lookout and maybe try some steep climbs up to Graves of the Leinstermen.

There is a private tarmac road up there too on a hill above Ballina which leads to the TV relay station, I think that's what that building is anyway!
Perfect if you want to time yourself for a few km

Route 2 is my own personal favourite, with the "lookout" being the well worth the short detour, the banner pic on this site was taken during a training spin yesterday, gives an idea of the view: http://www.visitnenagh.weebly.com

Thanks for the information. Delighted the old main road was quiet, and has been lined for bikes. Coffee & scone in Matt the Thresher.

Great route, great scenery, hills as mikemac said, perfect weather for such a spin. When I figure out how to drop in a photo from my phone I'll post it.
