Wicklow Gap Conditions?

Thinking of heading to Laragh via Enniskerry and Roundwood tomorrow morning, and home via the Wicklow Gap and Ballyknockan.

Anyone been around this way of late? Am I likely to encounter un-passable roads?

    Thanks

The other threads here seem to suggest it would be clear for the weekend.

Might venture up that way myself tomorrow but been sick the last two days and todays spins was a disaster so might just take it easy

someone on the weather forum mentioned that sally gap was only block in its last 20-30 meters (height-wise) to the top. That being the case the road at Wicklow gap will be fine. There'll be snow in the hills above it I expect, which should make for a pleasant climb.

Theres no Wicklow gap advisory over on aaroadwatch.

YR (link) shows freezing conditions on Friday night/Saturday morning for Laragh.

This link for Wicklow Gap is similar, with temps dipping to -5 overnight and not turning positive until before 10am.

Any snow already there won't go anywhere in a hurry in these temps.

If you are going to Laragh via Enniskerry, I'd recommend you avoid Roundwood and take this route instead. Lots of hills and little or no traffic

Pal of mine was over the Wicklow Gap yesterday evening with no problems, only got halfway up to Turlough Hill though.

Was that the snow or the incline? :pac:

Elsewhere on boards yesterday, the pictures suggest avoiding the area might be a good idea until a proper melt can take place: link

If it was me it'd be the incline, with him the snow, no doubt about that.

Cycled up Stocking lane Wed evening to sally gap. Some snow on the ground but road was clear of snow. Bloody freezing though! Not the answer you were after but i cant imagine Wicklow gap is any different.

    Hi

I went up Wicklow Gap and Sally Gap on Wednesday. Some snow on ground but passable.

On Monday the last few hundred metres at Sally Gap were impassable.

Went over the Wicklow Gap from Hollywood to Laragh today and the roads are totally snow free.

Do you not feel youd be better off with a high intensity race like the Harry Reynolds?

Was over Wicklow Gap yesterday. Roads clear, dry and well salted no problem at all.

Maybe tomorrow, long time since I made an appearance at a club spin, decided to be sociable instead of racing today :)

Not only was it clear up the Wicklow gap, it was glorious! It's climbs like that on days like today that made me take up cycling in the first place!

    Renewed bike love :)
