Would bad front shocks cause the steering wheel to wobble. It only starts at 60mph. Thanks

More likely a wheel out of balance.

If they were that bad it would start at a lower speed.

Do you mean wobble, car dancing on the road, or the steering wheel almost vibrating in your hand?

If its the second bring it to a tire shop and get the front wheels balanced.

The steering wheel itself wobbles. I dropped it to a garage and they told me the two shocks are gone and thats whats wrong with it.

    Could be lots of stuff

    Worn steering rack
    Bushings
    Dodgy Wheel bearing
    Tracking
    Wheel Balancing
Dodgy tire with a flat point on it
    Engine mount
    Banjaxed shock absorber.
    Bust spring.

If its happening under braking it can be a warped disc.
If its happening when accelerating it can be a binding disc.

Only way to know for sure is to get under it with a bar and check for play, check the wheel alignment and tracking + give the wheels jiggle to see if theres any movement also a visual inspection can make it a whole lot easier to see whats going on.

Go with the garage i'd say, trying to work it out via an Internet forum is a no go.

Does it stop if you go faster? Take it up to 70-80mph and if is stops then front wheels need balancing or tyre could be damaged.

Thanks, I will probably go with the mechanic, he has the car now and am thinking about whether to give him the go ahead. It gets a bit better the faster you go, say around 80mph but dosnt go away.
