    Hi all,

this only started happening the past week or 2 and I just put it down to the cold mornings but it happened this evening after work as well.

The van is pretty slow to start, I turn it over for 5-10 seconds 2 or 3 times and eventually it gets going. The battery is only a year old and it doesn't seem to be dying when I keep it turning over. Also, there seems to be quite a bit of smoke while its turning over but once it gets going its fine, no smoke.

It actually failed to start this morning after 10 attempts. I waited for the glow light to go off 10 times before I tried 1st, wouldn't start, was turning over just wouldn't get going. Had to roll start it in the end. After 30mins driving I stopped and tried to start it again, started straight away.

The van is straight 1.9 diesel, I think it may be the glow plugs myself but that's just a hunch, so if anyone could offer some advice that would be great.

    Thanks

    Metal

Sounds like a glow plug problem alright. The old 1Y indirect injection engine gets very hard to start when even 1 or 2 plugs fail.

Anyone have any tips on how to replace them, seems like the space is very limited on number 1 and 2, is there something I'm missing or is it just a tortures' job?

It is tight but do-able, remove the metal pipes from the injectors and it will give you a bit more room.
