    Hey

There is a group set up on carsharing.ie for UCD. Only ucdconnect email addresses are allowed in the group so its handy for anyone commuting from a distance.

Is it for staff, students or both? I remember that there was something similar on the UCD website a year or two ago.

Pretty good idea to be fair. I remember doing the math and if there is even 2 people in a car (including the driver) is cheaper than any public transport option (Which in itself is an utter joke)

I vaguely recall doing the math once too. I think I worked out that a car is cheaper if you only need to take 2 short buses a day, but a bus is cheaper if you need to take 4 or more (as then it's only 3 euro a day per person with a bus pass)

In my case, everything included (tax, insurance, fuel), the car would cost me €9 per round trip. But two people on the bus would be over €11. Doesn't sound by much but that's €2 every day. Even for half year in college, that's a saving of ~€400 over the bus.

Can I be nosy and ask how it's 11 euro a day? Do you need to use bus eireann? Or are neither of you students?

No, both students. Car is about €4 on fuel per roundtrip to UCD. Spread the insurance and tax over the year into that, its about €8.65 per day all in.

Dublin Bus outer sub-urban Leap fare is €2.90 each way. So times two round trips trips each, that's €11.60 per day.

Granted its not all that cheaper if you factor the entire year as the tax and insurance is every single day, but it means you can arrive and leave at your leisure, takes about the same time to get there and its infinitely more comfortable.

Can you not use a Dublin Bus pass and pay about €3 each per day? Perhaps I'm not reading it right, I'm a bit tired today. :p
