No new games as you have windows XP and won't support them. You need windows seven. Most new games will be playable at 800*600, 1024*800 resolution on very very low settings and some games wont be playable at all

Unlikely. Realistically you need a new system to be playing these games at reasonable frames/resolutions.

    Lol no.

Upgrading that PC was a bit of a waste of time. Its good for internet browsing, little else.

Just looked up The processor, graphics card properly and there both awful, you will not be able to play any new games whatsoever, and if you manage to get one running it will be 20 FPS on 800*600 resolution on the lowest settings.

Time to scrap that PC and build another one I'd say. you can build a decent gaming PC for around the 450 mark or less

Processor's way too old, graphics card is far too low end and was only ever designed as a media card, not a gaming card.

Plenty of older decent games that would run OK, but anything recent in the FPS genre is out, even on lowest settings.

I dunno, I was playing Crysis 1 on a 7300GS for a while... Of course, I had to mod it to run below minimum settings, but I eeked out a solid 30FPS. Those were the days.

The whole thing is brutal tbh, no point really upgrading it. Its only fit for the dump or sell it for 30 euro.

You probably will be able to run modern warfare 2 on 800*600 or 1024*800 resolution on the lowest-medium settings but will look truely awful. They will look like PS1 graphics

It's not quite that bad. He could probably get closer to €100 for it, but yeah, there's nothing in there worth keeping, really.

Upgrading any one piece of hardware - doesn't matter what it is to - won't help you play modern games. Either way, you're looking at at least €500 to get something worthwhile.

No thats an awful graphics card as well. Have a look at this site.
    www.videocardbenchmark.net/
You would want a graphics card with a rating of at least a 1100 or 1200 to play games decently at 720P. 6450 comes in at a rating of 300 so its still no use.

You will need recent equipment to play modern games

You do know as well that you can download demo's and game benchmarks to test on the computer?

PSU (that's not dodgy as hell):
    http://www.hardwareversand.de/300+-+400+Watts/74207/Corsair+VS+Serie+VS350%2C+Non-Modular%2C+80%2B.article

    Cheaper more powerful CPU:

Looks good otherwise. Grab Win7 from Software4Students and you've got the whole thing for less than €400.

thanks lads ill think ill sell my ps3 and xbox and build that rig but in the mean time would it play farming simulator 2011 ? :)

It will run perfect on it. If you are serious about the gaming PC, you'd want to be spending 600 on it to get a proper one if windows is needed

If you can't afford an upgrade like that, there are a few options.

Get something like an Operton 165/185, more l2 cache than your 3800 and overclock pretty well, could aim for 2.5-2.8ghz easily enough. Guy here on adverts selling the Opteron 165 for 20 euro. Guy on Ebay selling the considerably faster 180 for 23 euro.

Then get something like a GTX260 for 50 euro. If you don't have the power supply for a card like that, I know where you can get a HD6670 1GB GDDR5 version for about 30 euro if you want to PM me which would work on virtually any power supply.

You wouldn't be playing new games at blistering settings, but you would be able to play them for a total cost of 70 or 80 euro. 30 of which you'd get back from selling that 3800 and 5450.

What board and power supply do you have? Can you overclock or is a pre-built machine like a Packard Bell or some such? The 180 is a good buy for an old S939 system but you'd really want to be overclocking it by at least 200-300mhz....

Also, I assumed you were socket 939, but if you were socket am2 then a whole new avenue would be open to you. Can you run the program cpu-z and give us details on the board?

If you still have that S775 board - i totally missed that part - you could also keep that! You can get an E8500 for about 30 euro, until very recently I had that same CPU in my 2nd machine and paired with a good card, it ran Battlefield 3, Black Ops 2, and Far Cry 3, etc single player at high settings perfectly well - for the price you'd pay for one it's twice the value for money as the Opteron. That is assuming the board supports that series of CPU's.

All said though, that's spending more money on second hand parts...

    Your options....
    • A new G1610, a cheap mAtx mobo, 4gb ddr3 ram and a 2nd hand card for about 150 euro....
    • The Opteron 180 and 2nd hand card for about 70...
    • E8500, 4GB DDR2 Ram and a 2nd hand card for about 100...

First thing to do is find out the model numbers of your current board and the S775 one you have.

You will likely have to factor in the cost of a new windows licence if you replace the motherboard
