Getting back into horse riding

    Hi all,

Been thinking of this for quite some time, I was always into horses as a youngster and up until my mid teens used to go once or twice a week taking horses out in treks and over jumps in the arena's. I was just wondering is there places that let you do this anymore, take a horse out around on your own. Not off out of the center obviously, but off for gallops in open fields or over some nice jumps in a cross country style set up.

Looking for places around Wexford if anyone knows of anywhere? Would be interested in getting out and about on horse back on my own not as a group or lesson.

    Any information helpful as always,

    Thanks

I don't know of many riding schools that would let you do this unless you were maybe using one of there horses as a share horse or something.

It might be worth putting an ad in the horse share thread at top of this topic to see if anyone might have a horse in your area they wanted to share couple times a week.

If you haven't ridden for a long time, I am sure you are a very good rider but might be worth getting a few lessons just to get back into it and aswell that can open up contacts for if someone there looking for someone to ride their horse sometimes.

Nowhere would offer this I'm afraid due to insurance reasons.

I wouldn't think any reputable school would allow you to take a horse and go off by yourself.

If you've been out of the saddle for some time you're probably better off to get some lessons, brush up on everything and then maybe look at doing a horse share where you'd be able to do your own thing a bit more.

I don't know anywhere that would let you do that either. Having said that OP I have returned to horse riding in last 18 months, I go on treks with an instructor and have the normal lessons as well. It was the best decision that I have ever made. I even brought my Niece and Nephew out on there 2nd trek last weekend. So you never know I may have past the bug on.

I would certainly advise a few refresher lessons at the start.
