€9K for a 6 year old 1.4 Golf, are they having a laugh?

How much do you think you will save overall when taking into account the cost of trading up? 1.4 Golf will be more sluggish than the 1.6 Focus too.

okay Bazz, fair enough but I need a car that has lower running petrol/fuel costs.
Im just a Dublin city driver, not huge mileage.

Well I was also going to looking at a VW Jetta 2008 1.4L engine.

How much are you spending on petrol at the moment per week? How many miles are you covering?

Im doing about 15,000 a year, Dublin region only.

    About €60-€70 per week approx.

I thought the 1.4 golfs were meant to have a very soft engine?

1.4 litre 75bhp/80bhp in the MkV were carried over from the MkIV. 1.4 litre TSi is a different engine, 122bhp is solid enough but the 140bhp and especially the 170bhp version can be troublesome.

Well this VW Jetta has a 1.4 TSI engine, going to have a look at this tomorrow afternoon.

Inteerior trim is cream colour and I would imagine very difficult to keep clean.

Only offering a 3month warranty, for E9,950 very over priced for a 2008 car.

I'm thinking about buying a golf as well. Trying to decide between petrol or diesel.

    I have a budget of about €10,000.

If I go diesel, it makes sense to buy at least a 2008 or newer with the way the tax system works.

Most of my driving would be motorway driving, about 12,000 miles per year.

A 2008 diesel seems to cost in or around €12,500. Insurance fully comp would cost about €1,350 per annum.

A 2008 petrol would cost about €10,000. Insurance fully comp would cost about €1,150 per annum.
