    Hi
Any recommendation son loosening a PTO shaft on a Fertiliser speader.

Its a new shaft that was put on last yr and seems to be solid now so i cant move it in or out to put it onto the pto shaft?

    Any ideas.
I've tried hammer and force but cannot shift it?

Should i soak it in Diesel maybe to loosen it?

Get heat into the outer part and it will expand. Maybe a kettle of boiling water.

    Diesel should do the job..

Waste oil when its been cleaned for putting away

soak in diesel should do it.
tie one end to a pillar and the other to your tractor to pull it apart.

Thanks but the other end is also solid on the spinner so i cant remove it from the spinner.
Ill try the hot water first and then the diesel.,

Waste engine oil would be full of sulphur, never a good idea around bearings.

Put a few bags in the spreader, tie a rope to the pto shaft, attach other end to tractor, pull away slowly till the rope tensions, stop and put on handbrake, get out and tap the pto shaft with a hammer and the vibrations from the tapping should separate it. Simples :D

tie the spreader to the pillar

same happed to me last year. had to cut off the pto cover and then took an hour and a half of messing to free it up. when you do manage to get it apart get a sanding disc to the inside shaft to smooth out any little burrs that might be catching

    Solved,

Lifted Fert spreader up to the highest position, tied rope to the PTO shaft to the just above the toplink on the tractor, Dropped the fert spreader, this forced the shaft out a bit, Lifted up Fert spreader again tightened rope again and then dropped fert spreader, Eventually it came out far enough and loosened so that i could move it by hand.

5mm flat iron behind lip ... and give it a few handy taps

Lean it forward. prop it and pop in a shout of WD 40 ,,, use the straw no point smothering everything.

leave over night .... should work

put plenty of grease on it the next time before putting the shaft back on to prevent it happening again
