Reformatting a MacBook

The misses has a mac book purchased in 2011 she wants to sell it as she has no use for it so I said I'd reformatt the hdd to factory settings.what is the main procedure for doing so.she has snow leopard installed

Boot from the Snow Leopard DVD, after the startup screen for installing you can choose the Disk Utility application from the top menu bar. Choose the boot HD and select the erase tab ( you can choose secure erase option to be certain data cannot be recovered but it will take a while to complete ). You then quit from Disk Utility and continue with the install.
