Lufthansa 747-8I any experiences?

My better half is flying to HKG next month with Lufthansa and of course she gets to go in business, she is returning through ZRH with Swiss. Seen as she knows very little about aviation in general I pick her flights and seats. She has a good few miles with LH so it made sense to go with them again, and also the 747-8I is now on the FRA-HKG route.

So has anyone been on it yet, is it any good? Any tips (that I can grudgingly give her)?

I on the other hand get to go to Perth tomorrow via FRA and SIN in cattle class. At least it is my first go on the A380.

You should find some trip reports on flyer talk.

I have seen a report on the first class. They have there own terminal for First class passengers. Bag drop is down at the car drop off area and passport checks are done when you enter the building. The terminal is then a big lounge including fine dining restaurants all included in the price. When the time comes to board they come find you and you go down stairs to the garage and are driven in a Porsche or merc to your plane and are the last to board.

On the plane they have a seat and beside the seat they have a bed. No need to change the seat into a bed like most other airlines.

I went IAD->FRA on the 747-8 was quite nice. Didn't get a look in at Business but First was very nice. Staff were a bit too rigid and not overly friendly but were professional. Food was quite good.

I flew HKG-FRA on the 747-8I on Wednesday last, G class ticket unfortunately.

The flight appeared completely full (business cabin included). I actually preferred the outbound leg MUC-HKG with LH on their Airbus A340-600 - first time I'd seen that config with toilets and a self-service galley downstairs.

As an aside, at the start of the year I moved from LH's Miles & More to Aegean Airlines FF Program - there's a 2k mls sign-up bonus and you achieve Star Alliance Silver after only 4k. The best part is SA Gold requires just 20k with Aegean and lasts for 3 years.

As most of my travel is in economy, priority boarding & lounge access 'til 2016 is a useful enough perk.

Thanks Yamanato... must have a look at that Aegean loophole, I'm always around the 30-40k a year for the last 3 years with LH but get no status for it.

Regarding the 747-8I, I saw it in the flesh this morning in FRA. It does look class compared to an A380, much more pleasing to the eye. In saying that the Thai A380 didn't look too bad either (comparing to other A380's obviously). It is still a behemoth.
