Graphic designer, looking to move into game/web development

Hi there, to keep this short and sweet I did graphics in college, graduated in 2011, did 7 months in a design studio and well I could do the work but I didn't love it. Took off to canada to clear my head, stayed away from graphics, and worked odd jobs, am now returning to Ireland in a month and I feel its time to up skill.

Even though I've never been a big gamer I love the idea of creating a world and/or characters. Used to do it all the time as a kid and it was that drawing and imagination that got me bundled off to a graphic design course. I'm pretty quick at picking up technical stuff, am teaching myself web code and am trying to animate and build small games in Flash at the moment.

Im just confused as to what to do next to actually get into gaming, Ive googled it and the whole 'go a do a computer science degree' scares me a little. I was going to start with web development to see if I can hack the whole maths/code side of things, but I think its the visual side of stuff I should be aiming for.

Any advice or links or anything would be of great help, I want to really make a go and see do I like it or not, I could hate it but at least I know then! I can't spend the rest of my life designing Logos and posters, I'll go mad...

    Cheers
    Laura.

Cheers buddy that's fantastic. Also found a website called Treehouse, not for free but their tutorials are the best I have came across on the web yet.
    Thanks again :)
