Graphics Card Dead? Time to upgrade.

Hello all! I got home today and upon turning on my PC the monitor displayed a message saying there was no signal input. This has happened a few times in the past but usually after a while it works fine again. Unfortunately this time it doesn't appear to be the case!

I know the monitor works fine as I've tried it on another PC. Think the problem may be with the graphics card although theres no burning smell and it still appears to turn on with the rest of the conputer (can see its fan spinning). Its a GeForce 8800 GTX which I bought in 2007/8 along with the rest of the PC which is a Dell XPS 710. Ive taken the card out to clean its connections and ensure its connected correctly. Also done the same with the RAM as I read that could help.

I'd like to upgrade the whole computer in the future but can't afford to now but was wondering if you guys could suggest a good card? I'd hope to upgrade the rest of the PC later.

The PC has no integrated card so I'm pretty stuck. One other thing is that the monitor connects to the graphics card via a DVI-VGA adapter. The adapter itself has been in place for years and looks a little curved so I'll try replacing that tomorrow if I can buy one somewhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I've no budget at the moment but I'd like to get it running again. Maybe future proof it for gaming and then upgrade the processor later on. Just like to hear a few suggestions and prices then see if I could make it happen.

Can't tell you the type of PSU at the moment. It's huge though so it'd be safe to assume it can run anything!

Thanks and sorry for not including that initially ;-)
