    Hi guys,

I was considering buying a new bass and was thinking about a Squier Mustang, specifically the Mikey Way signature as I've heard good things about it, pity it has his name on it though :/ Anyway i was wondering have anyone of you guys played that bass or similar basses and if you could give me you opinions/recommendations.

    Please & Thank you

Looks like a decent bass for the money as long as you're into the short scale.

It being shortscale is the next thing, im used to playing a big ass 5-string ibanez :/ so i may test the waters on the SS basses... I've always wanted a mustang bass, they're pretty little things.

I find the switching easy enough between my Jazz and a friend's short scale SG but I know plenty who have issues with the difference, I guess playing guitar too helps.

in that price range, hands down the vintage modified 70s jazz bass is a winner every time.

I have owned Fender P bass, Fender Jazz bass and a musicman stingray and played plenty of other up market basses and the neck on that thing competes with them all, it's finished superbly and is a great platform for upgrades too. Seriously you should try one and see what you think. I don't think you will be disappointed.

very pretty. not enough strings, and too many frets for my taste, but have fun!

The Squire Vintage Modern series are quality for the price. Would recommend one definitely.

My eyebrow just fell off! That sounds like a rather nice bass! I played the Stang last night night and was comparing it to the tone of my Ibanez BTB 5-string and i have to say the tone is amazing out of it! Makes me think of upgrading the pick-ups in the Ibanez though ill need to figure out how to wire it :/ should be easy i hope.

The Stangs neck is a good bit thinner than i thought and the fretboard isn't that wide, but everything plays beautifully. On the bus into work this morning i was thinking to myself about the bass and i think its a shame they gave it to Mikey Way. I think i know three or four MCR songs that are okay and everything else i've heard never really struck a chord with me and i think that fits in with the reason this bass will sell and wont sell is because its to do with Mikey Way/Mcr and i read peoples reactions on different forums to the bass saying that it looks cool but they wouldn't want to be seen with it because of the "designer". I think squire should have brought it out as a new model Rather than a emo saying "i want something shiny that sounds like a p-bass."

My point is, i think its a great little guitar and i think its a shame a lot of people wont go near it because of its "designer". And part of my wants to sand of the signature on the back of the headstock because it might raise value.

Also i'd love to see a five string mustang!

    That's a gorgeous bass.
I'm not used to 4-strings at all really, and the short scale would probably be an issue for me. That being said, I'd love to pick up something entirely different from what I normally play.... quite tempted by that mustang! ;)

Out of interest, what model BTB were you playing previously?

Seriously you should go test it out! My Stang has a lot more bang than i thought and i have the BTB205 Titanium Gray Flat. One of the older cheaper ones.

I've bought stuff from gear4music before including 1 or 2 guitars among other things. never had a problem and as you note they are quite competitive on price.
