I am a high handicapper and I feel there is no need for my 5 wood at the moment ! I hit it well 50% of the time but I hit my 20.5 Hybrid well 95% of the time. The 5 wood would get me an extra 30 yards but not worth it at this stage ?

Play the clubs you feel comfortable with.

I bought a 5 wood because i felt like i needed something between my 3w and 19 Hybrid and took out my 56 wedge. It gave me more options from 200m - 180m. If you were to take out your 5 wood would you move to the 4 wedge system or get another hybrid?

Its all about catering the bag to suit how you play, only you know if its worth it. But it is nice to experiment with different clubs making up the 14 allowed.

I think you've answered your own question there mate, I was similar to you, dropped my 3 and 5 wood to give up distance and use hybrids instead, better off being in play and playing better shots than "risking" the 3 wood.

Which hybrid do you play with ?

17degree is the lowest, off the deck on par 5s or long par 4s, from the tee on short par 4s for position.
23degree for shots of around 170yards so some par 3s and some approaches/lay ups (replaced my 5 iron but is shorter than my 5wood)
27degree for 155 yards approaches from the rough or some par 3s (replaced my 6 iron shots from the rough which were getting no distance).

    Ping G15s

Thanks slave1, do you find the 17 hybrid easier to hit than the 5 wood ?

Marginal yes and unlike the 5wood has the potential to get distance from the rough much easier so it provides me with a realistic option to reach that green that I previously would have had no chance because I drove into the rough and the 5 wood would not cut through the rough to give me the height to reach the green (avoid the tree/bunker etc).
I actually consider my 17degree hybrid as my 3wood replacement as I can hit it 190'ish.

18, but that's due to variability of play, I'd like to think 14 by the end of this year with all going well
