Novice as regards plumbing, my plumber is being of little assistance here and id love a second opinion.

I have a space near roof, 1200mm high, I am looking to put a 1050mm or 1200mm tank into that space, will the plumber need much clearence on top of the tank or can i get a horizontal hot water tank

    thanks

Are you talking about the small triangluar space left in a dormer roof?

or have you a clear 1200mm under a flat roof?

Are you talking about the expansion tank for the hot water system or a hot water cylinder? A 1200mm high expansion tank is way oversized and it would be a very bad idea to put a hot water cylinder up there because of insulation reasons and for practical plumbing reasons.
If its an expansion tank it should be at the same level as the water storage tank which would be much bigger
