    Hi,

Just bought a 2007 Ford Focus auto 1.6 petrol with 50,000 miles on the clock. Was serviced prior to sale. Trip computer is saying that I'm only getting an average of 18.8 mpg at the moment.
In fairness im only doing small runs a few times a week, 15- 20 mins drives here and there.
Still seems very low mpg though. Is this normal on a Focus automatic?

No that's not normal, something wrong there.

Reset the trip computer completely and get fresh readings. You would be better calculating your MPG yourself, by brimming the tank, resetting your trip computer and driving for however many miles. Then fill back up to see how many litres you've used. With the figures for miles covered and litres used you can calculate your consumption.

Does it feel like your actually getting 18 mpg or are you only looking at the mpg calculator? As above fill up tank, reset and see how you get on?

Reset the calculator and check again after a few runs.

I have a 2006 1.6 Focus auto and get 10L per 100km, which is 23mpg. Not great either but I only have mine 4 days so will have to drive a bit more to see the average.

    That's actually 28mpg

    Hi,

I have reset the trip computer last week after 3/4 filling the tank, previous reading was 17.4 :(

You need to do a full fuel-up brim it completely, the. Zero the trip computer and drive then brim up again and do the maths yourself, usually the on board computers can be wrong.

Can you post up your average speed from the same trip computer?

If its averaging 15-20mph, it might be right.

    Yes average speed is 19mph.

So drive faster you say :D
Honest Garda, im only trying to increase my mpg!

My average speed is about 17mph...in a 2.5 litre, and my MPG hovers around the 23/24 region. Granted it's a manual, but 18mpg can't be right even in a slush box.

With these engines also spark plugs if there old will effect MPG noticable. Replace them if their due this may help increase your MPG a bit but as your average speed is very low this is the main factor.

Just a follow up - I reset the fuel consumption and drove 200km over the weekend and got an average of 7.2L/100L (80kph average) on R roads and 7.8L/100L on the motorway (120kmh average). So that's way better than what I posted above and makes your MPG look way off, especially since we seem to have the same car.
