    Hi guys,

I'm doing the 10k Great Ireland Run on Sunday April 14th.

Cycling down to the race would make a lot of sense for me for a couple of reasons:

    1. I live about a 30min cycle from the Phoinex Park.
    and..
    2. The parking is woeful the day of this run due to the sheer volume of people doing it.

The problem is locking up the bike for the hour whilst I get sorted and do the run.

I rang the reception in the park and they tell me theres a whole 12 lock up stations around the visitor centre which I'm genuienly stunned at. But anyway...

Is there anywhere you would recommend for safely (as possible) lockin up the bike for that hour or so in the park or close by?

    Cheers.

ps I'll be lockin the bike with a horse shoe Abus lock and a long decent Chain lock for the 2 wheels.

Its a pity bikes get robbed really isnt it. Would be nice to leave your bike somewhere and know its 100% safe. Ah well perfect world and all that.

Near the zoo entrance? Usually very busy so should be fine as long as it's locked with a decent lock/cable combo.

After watching that at least I know I am locking the bike correctly at home and would have done on the go prior to watching the clip with my abus u lock and my chain lock. Abus one was about 80quid if I remember correctly and the chain one about 50quid so both ok locks I suppose.

I dont know though. My bike cost about 500quid so its still a big risk.

Its mad that I'm considering buyin a cheap yolk bike off adverts for these types of scenarios or going to the shop or whatever.

So annoying you cant really cycle your decent bike somewhere, leave it and feel safe in the knowledge it'll more than likely be there when you get back.

Anyway I'll have to make a call on it between now and next sunday. Might take a spin up to the park in the next day or two and see what I think from there.

    Cheers for the input guys.

i cycled from UCD for the half marathon in the park last august. locked my bike to a tree right beside the finish area using a 10 euro cable lock that i have had for years and it was still there when i finished. there were loads of people around which probably helped the bike is not exactly a desirable looking yolk with it's layer of road grime, mud guards and back carrier rack. Bull horns on the handlebars also add to the 'it was acceptable in the 90s' look. I don't think any self respecting bike thief would be seen on it.

regardless, there are plenty of trees just off themain avenue to which you could secure your bike.

and the best bit was finishing the race, collecting my bag and hopping on the bike and zooming past the row of cars waiting patiently to exit the park. Nice cool down for the legs too.

    Hi

I've locked mine up outside the entrance to the zoo. It was really busy! I didn't however risk my nice bike. I have a cheap one for these sort of scenarios. I would be gutted if someone got my nice bike!! It was hard work paying for that baby!!
