You only have to push a row of willow twigs into the ground and you will have a hedge! Whether its a good idea is another matter. It will end up as a rather deep (from front to back) hedge that will grow into trees if you do not keep it cut down, and will not be very 'solid'. I would only consider it in a damp, rather wild area in a large garden.

Have done in the past over a short section. Wouldn't really recommend it, but it would depend on what the purpose of the hedge is and what size you want it. Willow grows really fast, and in contrast to slow growing hedging like blackthorn or hawthorn it doesn't form a dense hedge lower down and just shoots for the sky with long whips.

Bamboo can and does make for an excellent hedge type style/wind break........theres many varieties of bamboo too.

But it can potentially get quickly out of control and spread shoots to all parts of the garden,if you are not carefull.;)

Dublin Zoo have large sections of 10 foot tall bamboo hedgerows/windbreaks around the Elephant enclosures.

Really does look the mutts nuts and theres a lovely sound from it swaying in the wind/breeze.

You could start off with small-ish plants and let them grow/mesh into ech other to form a nice formal type of hedgerow and get to a nice enough height.:)

You can buy bamboo plants in various varieties that are 10+ feet tall or you can buy them at only 3-4 feet tall.

A good idea would be to go to a large garden centre or nursery where thay have various hedgerows on display and then you can see (in the flesh) what you might like.

    Bamboo in pic attached.:)
